A New Blog Aggregator for Nigeria

Blogging

Web4Africa is proud to announce the unveiling of a new blog aggregator for blogs related to Nigeria, at http://bloggers.com.ng

bloggers.com.ng aggregates blogs related to Nigeria

bloggers.com.ng aggregates blogs related to Nigeria

The Nigerian blogosphere is easily one of the most vibrant on the African continent. Though figures are hard to come by,  a conservative estimate would put the number of Nigerian blogs at about 2,000. Following the thousands of blogs related to Nigerian would be a herculean task. Thus, there is a need to aggregate these voices and have an overview of the important blog headlines.

Though a few Nigerian blog aggregators have existed in the past, none of them have survived till date. This new aggregator would fill the gap and more offer even more interesting features:

  • the aggregator is update hourly
  • the homepage shares the latest blog headlines
  • the homepage offers clouds of categories and tags, thereby giving an overview of the popular blog topics
  • author page: shares a brief profile of the blog authors, their latest tweets as well as links to their respective social media networks
  • a Bloggers page lists all the blog authors and randomly features one of them at the top of the page

Existing blogs related to Nigeria can be submitted for listing via the “Join Us” page on the aggregator.

The aggregator would be updated with new features where necessary, as time goes by.

Ghana: another way to use your Etranzact card

Web4Africa

eTranzact card holders in Ghana can already use their cards in a wide variety of ways. The websites that accept eTranzact cards over the Internet are increasing regularly. Notable among these are airlines and some financial institutions operating in Ghana.

A useful addition to this list is Web4Africa Ltd. Web4Africa offers professional web services to clients worldwide. These include domain name registration, website design, web applications development, and web hosting.

Web4AfricaWeb4Africa’s website at www.web4africa.net already makes use of a sophisticated shopping cart for buyers to be able to order for their domain and web hosting over the Internet, and pay online via various international payment systems. Adding eTranzact to the list of supported payment systems empowers residents of Ghana to order and pay online for web services and in the Ghana Cedis currency.

An added convenience is that most of the web services ordered on www.web4africa.net and paid for online, are processed instantly. Thus, buyers do not have to go through the inconvenience of a bank deposit.

Web4Africa is Ghana’s leading web hosting company, hosting more websites than all the other competition combined, and a leading player in West Africa.

Ghana: Buy Web Hosting, Domain Names & pay online with your ATM card

Bank ATM card

Buy domain names and web hosting just got easier for residents of Ghana. ATM card holders of selected banks can now order for their web services through www.web4africa.net and pay online immediately. Orders paid for online with Web4Africa are processed instantly, so long the ATM card is successfully authorized. Regular ATM cardholders of the following banks in Ghana are currently enabled to pay online:

Pay online for web services with Web4Africa

  • Amalgamated Bank
  • Intercontinental Bank
  • United Bank for Africa (UBA)

The current situation of e-commerce in Ghana is less than exciting with only a few having access to Mastercard or Visa cards than can be used over the Internet. Many have had to drive through traffic to the bank to pay Web4Africa for their domain names & web hosting. Bank deposits are less than ideal for true e-commerce and come with a baggage of challenges:

  • time wasted in traffic could be applied into more meaningful endeavours
  • payment cannot be made on national holidays or weekends (some bank branches open for a limited period on Saturdays)
  • some banking halls can be very busy with spiralling queues of customers, resulting in a further waste of precious time

Thus, accepting regular ATM cards payment online gives real-meaning to e-commerce for residents of Ghana. With Web4Africa being the leading web hosting company in Ghana, a lot of website owners would be positively impacted by this new development.

Note however that Web4Africa has always accepted payment online via several international means like credit/debit cards, PayPal, Liberty Reserve, e-gold (no longer supported), Alertpay, MoneyBookers, PerfectMoney for several years.

The new payment method implemented on www.web4africa.net is powered by eTranzact Ghana Limited.

eCommerce: Website Development and Data management

eTranzact Ghana

Oluniyi D. Ajao of  Web4Africa would be speaking on 28th May 2010 at Etranzact’s Business Incubator programme on “eCommerce: Website Development & Data management”.

BUSINESS INCUBATION PROGRAM
Theme/Topic : The Business of eCommerce
Date : 28th May 2010 (10:00am – 3:00pm)
Venue : Busy Internet

Introduction to the programme

The eTranzact Business Incubation Program was developed as an avenue to encourage small to medium enterprises to adapt the use of technology to expand their business operations and/or create additional revenue streams for themselves.

This quarter, the Business Incubation Program will focus on ecommerce and the advantages of an online presence and how these can be used by individuals and SME’s in Ghana to build
sustainable businesses.

This topic was picked based on the identified need for information and knowledge we have encountered in our industry. eTranzact is an electronic payment solutions platform that provides individuals, businesses and financial institutions with means to pay and/or receive money using their mobile phones, the internet, POS terminals, and at bank outlets. We provide the technological interface that automates all payment processes, and facilitates the movement of funds electronically from the payer to the payee.

We have already signed on a number of entrepreneurs onto the eTranzact platform who use our API to receive payments on their websites from customers. However, there is a noticeable lack of knowledge on the proper management, development and marketing of an ecommerce website and also the financial know-how to sustain such an enterprise. This incubation program aims to considerably reduce this knowledge gap, and to further spread the use of ecommerce in Ghana.

Other speakers/panelists & partner organizations:

  • Kofi Dadzie – MD, Rancard Solutions
  • Nelson Da Seglah – Group ISM, UT Financial Services
  • George Babafemi – eTranzact Ghana Limited
